What Is a Panel Power Meter?
Panel Power Meters are instruments that read an input signal and display it visually, usually as a dial. Additionally, this type of meter may display other information or communicate with external devices through built-in interface capabilities; such meters are ideal for monitoring voltage, current, and power in industrial control panels, motor control centers, and machine control rooms.
Analog panel meters come in many sizes and specifications. They are often used to monitor a single line of current in industrial settings, such as fan and pump motors. When placed directly into a panel or junction box, this meter provides an easy way to quickly check whether any piece of equipment is running - saving both time and money by quickly alerting technicians of issues like filter blockage or broken belts that would otherwise stop production altogether.
Digital panel meters provide much greater functionality. Beyond simply displaying input signals in simple digital format, many of these instruments can also interpret multiple inputs simultaneously and display them on the screen at once. They may even act as controllers by outputting signals that activate or deactivate process units like ovens and fans using relays or open collector transistors; and send data via USB or serial ports directly.
Industrial buyers need to carefully consider their measurement needs before selecting an appropriate meter. For instance, those needing to monitor temperature can find meters that accept input from RTDs and thermocouples and display their reading in Celsius on screen. Multi-input meters also come equipped with additional channels for monitoring as well as adjustable displays with on/off controls allowing users to control which values they wish to view on screen.
Digital panel meters boast many additional features that can be found on them, such as set point options and alarms. These capabilities enable the meter to send an off-control signal when an exceeding limit or set point occurs, or an on-control signal when threshold levels approach or have been met. Additional benefits available in digital meters may also include programmable displays, multi-channel capability, and USB/serial connectivity.
